Drop In Ice Bin Ideas

Jun 15th

Because the freezer compartment contains ice and frost, it’s a great idea to wear work gloves while turning off the ice maker to protect your hands from cold damage. You may want to place a towel in the freezer to catch some water that remained in the water supply before turning it off.

Grab the drop in ice bin and pull it straight towards the front of the freezer until it loosens from the wall. Draw the cables that lead to the back of the ice maker until you find a clear or white connector. Remove each side of the connector and separate them to separate the ice maker from the freezer threads. Remove the ice maker from the freezer and close the door to the freezer. Reconnect the power cord into the socket, reinstall the back panel and push the freezer or fridge / freezer back into position.

Drop in ice bin are a common component of most modern freezers and combination refrigerators / freezers. Some ice makers are simply sitting in the surface of the freezer compartment, while others connect to a door dispenser. Whatever design, all ice makers have a rear waterline that supplies water to it. Over time, ice makers can fail and begin leaking water. After water leaks occur, homeowners should disable the ice maker to avoid flooding or floor damage.

Open the freezer door and locate the drop in ice bin. Examine the side of the ice maker that touches the freezer wall and locate the two screws that hold it in place. Remove each screw by turning them counterclockwise with a screwdriver. Put the screws in a safe place if you need them later. Examine the bottom of the ice maker to determine if a different thread is present there. If a screw is present, remove it as well and set it with the others.

Take the faces of the fridge or freezer and pull it out of the wall until you can access the electrical cord. Disconnect the cable in the wall before turning off the drop in ice bin. Remove the back cover from the appliance, if applicable, by removing the screws or bolts that hold it in place. Take a look at the back of the refrigerator for a copper water pipe that leads upwards, which is the water supply line for the ice maker. Locate the lever or knob at the base of the tube and close it by turning it counter clockwise until it is stuck.
